Daf 5 


1. One who recites המטה על שמע קריאתis likened to one who holds a double edged sword to slay mazikin. 


2. Three good gifts acquired through yisurin. In the midst of the sugya of yisurin, it is taught that HaKadosh Baruch Hu gave three good gifts to klal Yisroel which all have to be acquired through yisurin; Torah, Eretz Yisroel, and Olam Haba. 


3. Freeing oneself from one’s own prison. We learn that a person cannot free himself from his own prison from the fact that R’ Yochanan needed someone to heal him even though he had the capacity to heal others. אין חבוש מתיר עצמו מבית האסורים -


 Siman - Hay A sick person sitting up on a bed of hay saying המטה על שמע קריאתwith one hand while holding a sword with the other is visited by a Rabbi holding three gifts who has come to heal him.
