The US calls for an immediate halt to the latest fighting in Libya, and former Nissan chief Carlos Ghosn is removed from the company’s board.

Haftar's forces advance on Tripoli

Libyan strongman Khalifa Haftar is advancing on the capital Tripoli.

His self-styled Libyan National Army launched an offensive against the capital last week.

The oil and gas producer and refugee transit point has been fractured since 2011.

That's when NATO backed the overthrow of longtime leader Muammar Gaddafi who was killed in October that year.

US to designate Iran's Revolutionary Guard a terror group

The Trump administration is planning to designate Iran's Revolutionary Guard as a "foreign terrorist organisation."

Officials said off the record it could happen as early as Monday.

It's the first time the US has labeled another country's military as a terror group.

Critics say it could further destabilise the region and open up the US military to similar moves.

US Homeland Security chief resigns

Kirstjen Nielsen has resigned as US Homeland Security secretary.

She resigned as Trump is ramping up his attacks on immigrants and refugees heading north from Central and Latin America.

Nielsen is the latest Trump appointee to resign or be fired as the revolving door at the White House keeps spinning.

Rwanda marks 25th anniversary of genocide

Rwanda has begun a week of ceremonies to remember the 800,000 Tutsi and Hutus murdered during the Rwandan genocide.

The genocide began on April 7, 1994, when the Hutu majority began killing members of the Tutsi minority and moderate Hutus. Most of victims were Tutsis.

The killing was triggered by the still unexplained assassination of Rwanda's ethnic Hutu president on April 6, 1994.

Today's President Paul Kagame has won praise for his efforts at ethnic reconciliation.

Shareholders remove Carlos Ghosn from Nissan board

Shareholders at Nissan have removed former chief Carlos Ghosn from the company's board.

Ghosn is facing trial in Japan over financial fraud. He denies the charges and says he is the victim of a boardroom coup.

Ghosn played a key role in rescuing Nissan from near bankruptcy two decades ago.
