*)Sudan military rulers use force to clear sit-in

We begin in Sudan’s capital where at least five people were killed as troops raided a long-running sit-in outside the army HQ.

Explosions and gunfire were heard in Khartoum as witnesses reported smoke rising from the area.

Protesters are demanding the ruling military hand over power to civilians.

*)Car bomb kills at least 14 in Syria’s Azaz

A car bomb killed at least 14 people and wounded dozens in the northern town of Azaz in Syria, a war monitor said.

The explosion took place overnight at a market in the opposition-held area near the Turkish border.

Turkey has launched at least two military operations in northern Syria to clear the region of terror groups.

*)Protests and royal visit prepared for Trump’s UK visit

Britain rolls out the red carpet for US President Donald Trump on Monday as he arrives for a state visit.

Anti-Trump protests are planned across the UK, including London where he lands.

His comments on Brexit and endorsement of Boris Johnson as prime minister suggest Trump has already thrown out the diplomatic rule book.

*)China defends Tiananmen crackdown

Taiwan urged China to “repent” for the brutal Tiananmen Square crackdown, a day after Beijing said the action was justified.

In a rare public acknowledgement of the event, China defended its actions as “the correct policy”.

Tuesday will mark 30 years since Chinese troops used tanks and live fire on pro-democracy protesters.

*)Lee6 wins first major LPGA title

Jeongeun Lee6 won her first major championship and a record $1 million at the 2019 US Women’s Open.

She did so by shooting 1-under 70 to finish at, naturally, 6-under 278.

The South Korean player changed her surname to Lee6 as she wanted to stand out as the sixth player of that name on the Korean LPGA tour.
