Bridging the Divide: The Pride Center at UGA - a podcast by Deirdre Kane

In this episode, we talk with Chad Mandala, Ph.D candidate and director of the University’s Pride Center about his work supporting queer and trans students, Pride Center history, and what the Pride Center offers today. What many people don’t know is that UGA holds an important place in gay history. Fifty years ago this November, UGA was home to the first student organization in the university system supporting gay students – The Committee on Gay Education (CGE). In the spring of 1972, they sued the institution for the right to hold a dance, the first gay dance at a southern public institution. And they won. That organization lives on today as the Pride Alliance. The Pride Center was founded in 1995 and was the first within the University system.
