I caught up with Dallas Hemeyer, an experienced hunter who’s spent time going after big game all over the globe. He’s hunted just about everything you could imagine, including exotic big game species in Africa. We talked a lot about the mental and hard-work side of hunting. It was great to hear Dallas’ thoughts on what it takes to be successful in the field. 

 

“One of the things that really sets people apart is just grinding it out.”

Dallas and I agreed – having the mental toughness to do the hard work can make all of the difference on a hunt. Whether that means getting up at 3 am, or taking the tougher routes, putting in the effort is just crucial. Putting in that extra work simply produces better results, every time. 

 

That type of work ethic doesn’t have to stop when you leave the field. Dallas and I agreed that the effort you put into hunting, you can put into other areas of life. You put more in, you get more out. It’s that simple. 

 

Part of that is building a relationship with your equipment. We talked about favorite bows and rifles, and how important it is to make your gear into your best friend. That all comes from consistency. Dallas and I agreed that it’s critical to keep things consistent, year after year. Consistency means success.
