Before the roar, the air would soar with the weight of anticipation. On some thrilling occasions, prior to the discourse Swami would gift the world with a small poem that encapsulated the Truth of what followed. These poems put us in the right frame of mind for understanding the key messages Swami spoke about. In this ‘Poetic Preludes’ bonus episode we bring you the poem that preceded the fourth discourse of the Summer Showers in Brindavan 1990 series, with a SYAA twist.

| One may acquire great scholarship and come out victorious in assemblies of scholars;

One may be a great hero and win battles galore;

One may be born as a king of kings and rule a vast empire;

One may generously give away in charity gold and cows;

One may be able to count the countless stars that adorn the sky;

One may be able to name the innumerable species of living beings;

One may be well-versed in ashtanga vidya (the eightfold path of yoga);

One may be successful in reaching the Moon;

But no one can control their body and senses,

Nor conquer their mind and keep it

In a state of constant introversion and unshakeable equanimity. |
