She talks about where bias comes from, why the erosion of old social norms has brought our prejudices to the surface, and how technology can encourage bias. Eberhardt shares examples of academic studies and real-world statistics that have revealed racial bias among police officers, and explains how one tech platform — the local social media site Nextdoor — reduced racial profiling among its users by more than 75 percent.
