Dr. Shannon Sovndal – Fragile: Beauty in Chaos, Grace in Tragedy, And The Hope That Lives In Between

Aired Wednesday, June 10, 2020 at 5:00 PM PST / 8:00 PM EST

According to the CDC’s National Center for Health Statistics, prior to the COVID-19 Pandemic and average 145 million Americans visited a hospital emergency room annually. That accounted for approximately 45 percent of the US population. What is that experience like? For those of us who have visited an ER, we know full well that it is not the way it has been depicted in television drama. What’s it like for the dedicated doctors, physicians assistants, nurses and other ER personnel who take on the herculean task of providing treatment, comfort and care to those needing their services and their families? What does it feel like to hold someone’s life in the balance?

My guest this week on Destination Unlimited, Dr. Shannon Sovndal, knows full well what this feels like. A board certified doctor in both emergency medicine and emergency medical services, Dr. Sovndal serves as a physician and medical director for multiple EMS agencies and fire departments. Dr. Sovndal has a wide range of career experience, working in tactical medicine with the FBI, as a team doctor for the Garmin Professional Cycling team and as a flight physician. He is the producer of the podcast “Match on Fire: Medicine and More” and the founder of 3Hundred Training Group, which focuses on educating and training pre-hospital providers. His website is https://drsovndal.com/ and he joins me this week to share his experiences and discuss his just published book, Fragile: Beauty in Chaos, Grace in Tragedy, And The Hope That Lives In Between.
