In our first ever Book Club episode, Joel talks about the first half of "The Pitcher and the Dictator," by Averell "Ace" Smith. It's the story of the 1937 baseball season in the Dominican Republic, when dictator Rafael Trujillo brought in players from the American Negro Leagues - most notably pitcher Satchel Paige, and used them as ringers in an attempt to boost his own standing with the baseball loving populace.
