A fascinating keynote from the Religious Materiality & Emotion' symposium, this lecture looks at how we think about agency in religious settings, how it is distributed between people’s bodies, souls, heavenly beings, and material artefacts (in a broad sense), and how this distribution is contested, including in academic discourse. Sheer argues that emotions play a special role in this process and that practice theory gives us a good framework with which to analyse it, using examples from her research among various kinds of Christians.
