Morning:

John 14:16–17; John 16:7; Romans 5:5; Romans 8:15–16; Romans 8:26; Romans 15:13; 1 John 4:13

“I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper… even the Spirit of truth.”

“It is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you.”

The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God.—You did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!”—The Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.—Hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.

By this we know that we abide in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit.

John 14:16–17 (Listen)

16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper,1 to be with you forever, 17 even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be2 in you.

“Should I not seek rest for you, that it may be well with you?”

There remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God.—My people will abide in a peaceful habitation, in secure dwellings, and in quiet resting places.—“There the wicked cease from troubling, and there the weary are at rest.”—“They may rest from their labors.”

Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf, having become a high priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.

“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”—“In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and in trust shall be your strength.”

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters.
