Morning:

Genesis 35:2–3; Psalm 10:17; Psalm 42:11; Psalm 50:15; Psalm 86:5; Psalm 103:2; Psalm 116:1–4

“Call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify me.”

Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God.—O Lord, you hear the desire of the afflicted; you will strengthen their heart; you will incline your ear.—For you, O Lord, are good and forgiving, abounding in steadfast love to all who call upon you.

So Jacob said to his household,… “Let us arise and go up to Bethel, so that I may make there an altar to the God who answers me in the day of my distress and has been with me wherever I have gone.”—Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits.

I love the Lord, because he has heard my voice and my pleas for mercy. Because he inclined his ear to me, therefore I will call on him as long as I live. The snares of death encompassed me; the pangs of Sheol laid hold on me; I suffered distress and anguish. Then I called on the name of the Lord.

Genesis 35:2–3 (Listen)

So Jacob said to his household and to all who were with him, “Put away the foreign gods that are among you and purify yourselves and change your garments. Then let us arise and go up to Bethel, so that I may make there an altar to the God who answers me in the day of my distress and has been with me wherever I have gone.”

Evening:

Psalm 86:15; Isaiah 64:1; Isaiah 64:4; Habakkuk 2:2–3; Hebrews 10:37; 2 Peter 2:8–9

“Yet a little while, and the coming one will come and will not delay.”

“Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it. For still the vision awaits its appointed time; it hastens to the end—it will not lie. If it seems slow, wait for it; it will surely come; it will not delay.”

But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.—But you, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness.—Oh that you would rend the heavens and come down…. From of old no one has heard or perceived by the ear, no eye has seen a God besides you, who acts for those who wait for him.

The Righteous Shall Live by His Faith

And the LORD answered me:

  “Write the vision;
    make it plain on tablets,
    so he may run who reads it.

2 Peter 2:8–9 (Listen)

(for as that righteous man lived among them day after day, he was tormenting his righteous soul over their lawless deeds that he saw and heard); then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials,1 and to keep the unrighteous under punishment until the day of judgment,
