TESLA TO LAUNCH FULL SELF-DRIVING SUBSCRIPTION WITHIN 4 MONTHS

"Elon Musk says that Tesla will launch its subscription service for its Full Self-Driving package within the next three to four months. Get ready for a high monthly premium, though." says electrek: "Musk confirmed on Twitter that the timeline is now “for sure” during the second quarter of 2021, which puts the release between April and June. The CEO also reiterated that it will still be a “better long-term deal” to outright buy the Full Self-Driving package. That’s something that Musk has emphasized many times over the last year since the subscription service became more likely. The subscription service is expected to cost over $100 per month, and the price could go up with the purchase price. Musk has been claiming that Tesla vehicles will gain in value due to their self-driving capability, which could generate revenue through an upcoming self-driving ride-hailing network that Tesla is planning to release later this year."

RIVIAN SHARES DETAILS ON THE R1T PICKUP’S CLEVER BATTERY HEATING STRATEGIES

"Rivian engineers visited one of North America’s largest cold-weather testing facilities in Minnesota to refine the R1T and R1S vehicles’ dynamics and battery performance. While there, Rivian engineers tested self-heating strategies for its battery pack. According to the Control Integrations Engineer, Rivian’s battery was designed to operate up to an ambient temperature of -40°F (-40°C). R1 vehicles use a central cold plate to efficiently heat or cool their batteries and maintain the cells’ optimum temperature." according to TEslarati: " the VP for Propulsion Powertrain, stated that Rivian’s R1T vehicles could soak for a long time in -40°F and still operate fine once properly heated. However, it would take 20 minutes to heat the battery enough to use the car’s full power and optimal battery performance."

XPENG P7 WITH COBALT-FREE LFP BATTERY IS ABOUT TO ARRIVE

"In China, the Xpeng P7 with a cobalt-free LFP battery will become available to buy in just two days. We now have more details to compare this cobalt-free version to the standard one with a NCM 811 battery, also from CATL." says Pedro at PushEVs: "Unfortunately, LFP battery cells currently made by CATL aren’t very energy dense. Right now, LFP battery cells made by Guoxuan and BYD seem to be more advanced."

BLADE BATTERY-POWERED BYD TANG FINALLY COMING TO NORWAY IN LATE SUMMER

"BYD has released more details and updated plans for the market launch of the Tang model in Norway, announced first in Spring 2020 with customer deliveries initially expected for January 2021. The Tang will be offered in a 7-seat, well-equipped version for 599,900 NOK (€58,181/$70,077) with a 86.4 kWh battery for up to 505 km (314 miles) of NEDC range (no WLTP rating yet)." Says InsideEVs: "The battery itself is the new Blade Battery - lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) chemistry in a cell-to-pack (CTP) system. The production of BYD Tang for Norway is expected to start in the second quarter, while first customer deliveries - through RSA, a sole Norwegian distributor - should start in late summer. BYD aims at the family market, highlighting 7 seats and "extremely high level of equipment" as key selling points for the Tang. Interestingly, there are over-the-air software updates implemented"

Petaluma, California Is THE FIRST US CITY TO BAN NEW GAS PUMPS - "Petaluma, California, city council unanimously voted to become the first city in the United States to ban both the construction of new gas stations as well as the addition of more gas pumps to existing stations, reports Gizmodo. The city already put a two-year moratorium on building new gas pumps in 2019, so this new vote really just makes it permanent. "
