TESLA IS BUILDING A MASSIVE BATTERY TO CONNECT TO THE TEXAS POWER GRID
"The recent power outages that left millions of Texas residents without power in the middle of a record cold spell has put the focus on the state's mismanaged power grid. As temperatures dropped to below freezing in Texas last month, coal and natural gas power plants, which supply a bulk of the state's electricity, were knocked offline. " ays FutureCAr: "Now the state is getting some help from Tesla Chief Executive Elon Musk. Bloomberg reports that Tesla subsidiary Gambit Energy Storage LLC is building a giant energy storage battery that will be connected to the state's power grid. The massive battery could power roughly 20,000 homes on a hot summer day. The 100-megawatt energy storage project is being built in Angleton, Texas, according to Bloomberg. Bloomberg reported that workers at the construction site discouraged onlookers and attempted to keep the equipment under cover. But a Tesla logo could be seen on a worker's hard hat and public documents confirmed Tesla's role in the project. Bloomberg uncovered property records on file with Brazoria County in Texas show Gambit Energy Storage shares the same address as a Tesla facility near the company's factory in Fremont, California. In addition, a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission lists Gambit as a Tesla subsidiary. "
DAIMLER TO PRODUCE LITHIUM-ION CELLS NEAR STUTTGART
"A dispute over the electric campus at Mercedes seems to have been settled and Daimler has now announced that it will build the ‘Mercedes-Benz Drive Systems Campus’ in Stuttgart-Untertürkheim. The main plant is to be focussed on electric vehicles, which included the production of lithium-ion cells." reports electrive; "According to Daimler, electric drive and battery technology will be developed in the technology competence centre. The group said that this underpins the strategy announced in October 2020 and that it will invest a three-digit million amount in the project. The group also says that the next generation of electric motors will be developed “in-house” at the campus and “equipped with inverters and high-voltage technology”. Assembly of battery systems for the EQS, which is being built 20 kilometres away at the Sindelfingen vehicle plant, will already start this year at the Hedelfingen plant. Later, the batteries for the EQE will also be assembled in Hedelfingen."

SKODA OPENS ORDER BOOKS THIS WEEK FOR NEW ELECTRIC ENYAQ IV SUV
"Order books open this week for Skoda’s new pure-electric Enyaq iV SUV, with prices kicking off at £31,085 (after the government grant). From tomorrow, customers can choose from two battery options, a new range structure, and a new finance offer called Lease&Care. Skoda has ditched the traditional trim structure, instead letting customers choose the battery size and then giving the option of interior designs and equipment packs." writes Jame sBatchelor for Car Dealre MAgazine: "The entry-level Enyaq gets a 62kWh battery capacity and 177bhp motor, with prices starting at £31,085 and offering a claimed range of 256 miles. Standard equipment includes 19-inch alloy wheels, parking sensors, climate control and an infotainment system with a 13-inch screen and on-board sat nav. This entry model is only available with the ‘Lodge’ interior design. The larger 82kWh battery, with a 201bhp motor and 333-mile range, start at £35,950 after the grant"
PORSCHE INVESTS ADDITIONAL €70M IN RIMAC AUTOMOBILI
Porsche has further increased its investment into Rimac Automobili, expanding its stake in the business to 24% with an additional 70M EUR.
Porsche bought a 10% stake of the business in 2018, before increasing it to 15.5% in 2019. The latest investment reinforces Rimac Automobili’s status as a leader in high-performance electrified vehicle technologies.
Since Porsche’s first investment in 2018, the team at Rimac Automobil has doubled to nearly 1,000 people, and the Croatian technology company has continued to produce some of the world’s most advanced electrified powertrains, batteries, infotainment and other components related to electrification. Rimac Automobili now works with many major car manufacturers, including Hyundai, Kia, Porsche, Aston Martin, Automobili Pininfarina, Koenigsegg and many more.
TESLA’S COMMUNICATIONS WITH DMV OVER FULL SELF-DRIVING ARE RELEASED AND THEY BRING SOME CONFUSION
"Tesla’s communications with DMV over the release of its Full Self-Driving Beta have been released through a freedom of information request. Some of the comments made by Tesla to the DMV are bringing some confusion to people, as they could be interpreted as contradicting what Tesla and Elon Musk are saying publicly." writes electrek: "Some of what Tesla is saying in its communications to the DMV are confusing people as it appears to contradict what Elon Musk has been saying, which is that Tesla’s FSD package will lead to a trully “full self-driving level 5 system” by the end of the year. At the core of the controversy is a letter that Eric Williams, Tesla’s associate general counsel, sent to Miguel Acosta, chief of the autonomous vehicles branch at the California Department of Motor Vehicles, over some questions that the latter had about Tesla’s FSD Beta."
