Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Tuesday 11th May. It’s Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story so you don't have to.

Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.

FORD'S FORTHCOMING BATTERY-ELECTRIC TRUCK TO BE CALLED 'F-150 LIGHTNING'

On Twitter @mrlevine Mike Levine, Ford North America Product Communications manager: "BAM! Get ready for the all-electric, all-new Ford F-150 Lightning to be revealed on May 19 at 930 pm ET. ime to take electric and turn it into Lightning. Quicker than the original F-150 SVT Lightning yet able to work as hard as today’s trucks. Awesome!"

"Ford Motor Co.'s battery-electric version of its best-selling F-150 pickup truck is coming — and now it has a name. The Blue Oval revealed Monday that the truck will be dubbed "F-150 Lightning." The vehicle itself will be unveiled May 19 via a livestreamed event from Ford World Headquarters in Dearborn." says The Detroit News: "F-150 Lightning is part of Ford's initial portfolio of electric vehicles that includes the Mustang Mach-E, which launched at the end of last year, and the forthcoming electric version of the Transit van."

MERCEDES-BENZ CONCEPT EQT

"The Mercedes-Benz Concept EQT previews the brand’s new T-Class MPV, the electric version of which will be the ninth model from its EQ sub-brand" says Autocar today: "Set to rival the Volkswagen Caddy, Citroen Berlingo and Vauxhall Combo when UK sales get underway in 2022, the new model has been developed in partnership with Renault; the T-Class is twinned with the third-generation Kangoo, while the EQT is a sister model to the recently announced Kangoo E-Tech Electric. Mercedes-Benz’s Van division is planned to offer the choice of either a standard wheelbase in combination with a five-seat layout or, as previewed by the Concept EQT, an extended wheelbase with a seven-seat layout. Entry to the front is via front-hinged doors, while rear access is via a set of sliding doors, electronically operated on the concept but set to be manual on the production version."

UK’S LARGEST EV CHARGING HUB SET TO ELECTRIFY BRENT CROSS

The 236-bay hub will be installed in Brent Cross Shopping Centre car park. The chargers, which will be operated and maintained by Franklin Energy on the LiFe Network, will be supplied by EVBox and installed over a number of phases. The first phase, which is due to complete later this year, will see the installation of 50 fast charging points (22kW AC) and two ultra-rapid charging points (350 kW DC)

The fast chargers take 1-2 hours to fully charge a car battery, providing ample time for customers to enjoy the many retail and leisure offerings available at Brent Cross and complements the average time taken for a visit, which, prior to the pandemic, averaged at 95 minutes.(1)

RENAULT CONSIDERS INTRODUCING BATTERY-SWAPPING IN ITS ELECTRIC CARS

"Renault is considering introducing a battery-swapping capability in its electric cars, potentially becoming the first big carmaker to embrace the technology." reports the Financial Times today: "Chief executive Luca de Meo told the Financial Times’ Future of the Car Summit on Tuesday he is assessing plans to adopt the technology, which would significantly cut waiting times at recharging stations. The battery-swapping technology also allows manufacturers to decouple the cost of batteries from new electric vehicles, preventing drivers from being concerned about depreciating battery capacity or value."

AUDI BOSS THINKS ELECTRIC VEHICLES WILL BE HALF OF THE MARKET BY 2030

"Since, 2018, Audi has introduced, the e-tron SUV, the e-tron Sportback, sportier “S” variants of both, the e-tron GT, the Q4 e-tron, Q4 e-tron Sportback, and the all-new A6 e-tron Concept. Audi has developed more new EVs in the past couple of years than Tesla has developed in its entire existence." points out the website Quattrodaily - so, they'll be a little biased!: "According Audi CEO Markus Duesmann, electric vehicles will make up half of the automotive market by 2030. In fact, Duesmann sees such a massive shift in the demand for electric vehicles that, as long as the infrastructure can support it, he doesn’t see a reason why any customer would want internal combustion if electric vehicles are available."

FRANCE WRITES-OFF CHADEMO STANDARD IN NEW LEGISLATION

"The end of the CHAdeMO fast-charging standard is on the horizon in France. While a 2017-decree made CHAdeMO mandatory for DC-charging stations alongside CCS and Type 2 by the end of 2024, the government has now revised its plans." writes electrive: "The decree, published in its revised form earlier this month, ends the requirement to implement the Japanese standard. From now on, only CCS for DC charging and Type 2 for AC charging (22 kW) is considered mandatory for newly installed and replaced fast-charging stations in France. The French decree further stresses the requirement of interoperability and introduces obligations in terms of quality of service. CPOs and networks must make their commitments public, for example, “report periodically” on the quality levels achieved."

ARE ELECTRIC FIRE TRUCKS IN THE NEAR FUTURE?

"However, it wasn’t until recently that innovators began to apply electric technology to emergency vehicles. Now, the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) is showing off North America’s first electric fire engine from Austria-based Rosenbauer Group." says Clean Fleet Report: "However, the vehicle isn’t fully electric. It’s a series plug-in hybrid like the Chevrolet Volt. Volvo Penta, which has created electric powertrains for a variety of applications, will power the Revolutionary Technology fire truck. The electric drive unit is based on one use in terminal tractors. To test durability, Rosenbauer will also test three more trucks in Berlin, Amsterdam and Dubai. The truck features two electric motors with a total output of 490 horsepower...quick-charge batteries with a charging capacity of 100 to 150 kilowatts."

QUESTION OF THE WEEK WITH EMOBILITYNORWAY.COM

A recent survey – which I highly questioned and disagreed with – claimed 1 in 5 EV owners went back to piston power.  I have never heard anything like a 20% rate of EV drivers being unhappy with electric. Would you ever go back? Yes, No and tell me why!

Email me your thoughts and I’ll read them out on Sunday – hello@evnewsdaily.com

It would mean a lot if you could take 2mins to leave a quick review on whichever platform you download the podcast.

And  if you have an Amazon Echo, download our Alexa Skill, search for EV News Daily and add it as a flash briefing.

Come and say hi on Facebook, LinkedIn or Twitter just search EV News Daily, have a wonderful day, I’ll catch you tomorrow and remember…there’s no such thing as a self-charging hybrid.
