"We're a far cry away from the Tesla Model 3's admired "$35,000" price. As of Friday, Tesla has jacked up prices yet again on the Model 3 and its Model Y SUV cousin. Before any additional options or extra-cost paint colors, the Model 3 in its least expensive form now costs $41,190 after a $1,200 destination charge. The cheapest Model Y grows more expensive at $53,190 after the increases." says CNET: "Although this increase is just $500, Tesla has increased the prices on both of its affordable-ish EVs numerous times so far this year. The Model 3 is now at least $2,500 more expensive than it was in March. Maybe this is all part of some sort of long-game strategy as Tesla plans for a new global model meant for production in China. The vehicle could fulfill Musk's long-long-term promise of selling a $25,000 EV with a Big T badge on it."

 

 

"Tesla has joined a project to build one of Europe's most powerful charging hubs capable of powering 26 electric vehicles at once. Elon Musk's automotive giant is one of four companies working on the so-called "Energy Superhub" in the British town of Oxford, due to open at the end of this year. The new hub, announced Friday, will produce 10 megawatts of renewable energy from Dutch solar and wind firm Fastned." says Business Insider: "The company owns around 15.7% of the country's rapid charging network, according to figures from ZapMap . To date, Tesla has around 695 of its "Superchargers" dotted across the country. The Oxford hub will be made up of 14 fast chargers and a further 12 Tesla Superchargers. The project is being led by Pivot Power, a company that focuses on building superhubs across the UK. The company, which is part of the renewable arm of energy giant EDF, has plans for 40 sites across the UK. When it first opens, the hub will be able to initially charge 10 vehicles at once with rates of up to 300 kW."

 

 

"Ford Motor Company and Seoul, South Korea-based SK Innovation signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a joint venture to domestically manufacture batteries for electric vehicles, the two companies said Thursday. The new venture, dubbed BlueOvalSK, will produce around 60 GWh annually starting mid-decade. The MOU is the latest sign that Ford intends to vertically develop its battery capabilities." according to TechCrunch: "The 60 GWh production capacity would likely span two manufacturing sites but the companies are still determining those plans, including locations of the plants across North America, Drake added. Sixty GWh roughly translates to enough battery capacity to build 600,000 vehicles, Thai-Tang said. SK Innovation already has two separate EV battery plants under construction in Georgia under a collective investment of $2.6 billion. One of the plants is already producing batteries and the other is set to become operational in 2023. The company is also building a separate factory in Tennessee, with Volkswagen AG as its customer."

 

 

"Daimler AG’s truck chief expects hydrogen-powered big rigs to play an important role in slashing emissions from the transportation sector despite the technological hurdles and skepticism raised by two prominent rivals." says Bloomberg Green: "Focusing solely on battery-electric vehicles would be risky because of the scarcity of certain raw materials and challenges grids will have supporting wide-ranging charging networks for trucks and buses, Martin Daum, Daimler Truck’s chief executive officer, said in a phone interview.  Fuel cells, which generate electricity from hydrogen and therefore eliminate the need to recharge batteries, have been touted for years as a potential alternative to combustion engines. But high costs and sparse fueling infrastructure have stood in the way of broader adoption and left the technology far behind battery-electric powertrains in the passenger-car market."

@elonmusk: "Diess is right. Hydrogen is a staggeringly dumb form of energy storage for cars. Barely worth considering it for a rocket upper stage, which is its most compelling use."

 

 

"Today, by the way of checking the prices of Tesla cars, we came across a strange thing. It seems that the Tesla Model S Plaid+ appears to be no longer selectable in Tesla's online design studio." says InsideEVs: "We've been informed that an mail from Tesla to its stores yesterday advised that Plaid+ is "no longer an option for ordering," due to "long lead times." Tesla stores expect to begin deliveries of the "non-plus" Model S Plaid next month after the initial delivery event. Once you hover the mouse over the top-of-the-line Plaid+ version (shown on a gray field), the cursor turns into a 'no entry' sign and it can't be selected. We know that the tri-motor Plaid version will be launched (after a delay) soon with the first customer deliveries on June 3. The dual-motor Long Range version will follow after that. The main difference for the Plaid+ version is probably the battery, which is expected to provide a range of more than 520 miles (837 km), compared to 390 miles (628 km) in Plaid and 412 miles (663 km) in Long Range versions."

 

 

"Hyundai will soon start deliveries of the Ioniq 5, which was presented in February, in Norway. Several hundred examples of the 800-volt electric vehicle have already been shipped there. Specifically, it is the special model ‘Project 45’." reports electrive: "According to the Norwegian Hyundai importer, the first transport ship with the electric model built in South Korea has docked in the port of Drammen. These are said to be “several hundred” Ioniq 5s, so deliveries of the special model will begin “in a short time”. A total of 14,000 interested parties have registered for the 800-volt BEV in Norway. It remains to be seen how many of these interested parties actually wanted to order a copy of the special model or put themselves on the waiting list for the freely configurable Ioniq 5. The ‘Project 45’ is only available with the large battery and all-wheel drive."
