STELLANTIS TO INSTALL 15,000 EV CHARGING HUBS ACROSS EUROPE

"Stellantis is developing a European charging network for electric cars in cooperation with the Italian company The F Charging. Plans now announced comprise more than 15,000 locations with a total of two million parking spaces by 2025. The roll-out is to begin soon." reports electrive: "Stellantis and the F-Charging estimate to begin building the network this year, starting in Italy. Then the network will expand to “the whole of Europe,” the partners announced without going into detail. F Charging and Stallentis said they have already identified over 1,000 owners or operators of locations across Europe that are likely candidates for cooperation. Stellantis does not disclose more information on the schedule and exact locations. However, the chargers will include sites in city centres or public institutions (e.g. hospitals and schools) and transport hubs and retail locations and not only line the highways, for example. In total, the partners target to install fast-chargers at 15,000 locations covering two million parking spaces by 2025."

SAMSUNG SDI SIGNS JOINT VENTURE DEAL WITH STELLANTIS FOR EV BATTERIES

South Korean battery maker Samsung SDI Co. has signed a deal with global carmaker Stellantis N.V. to set up a joint venture to produce electric vehicle (EV) batteries, industry sources said Tuesday.

Samsung SDI’s deal came a day after its domestic rival, LG Energy Solution Ltd., announced the signing of a similar contract with the same carmaker in what analysts predict to be an about 4 trillion-won (US$3.4 billion) investment.

Samsung SDI and Stellantis also recently signed a memorandum of understanding on the joint venture to build a battery production plant in the United States, according to the sources.

UK ELECTRIC CAR MANDATE ANNOUNCED FOR CAR MANUFACTURERS

"The Government will impose a mandate on car manufacturers for a certain proportion of cars they sell to be zero-emission in order to help meet net-zero carbon targets. The exact proportion has not yet been decided, with the Department for Transport intending to hold a consultation on the matter, but the aim is to “improve consumer choice” and help deliver on the commitment to end the sale of new conventional petrol and diesel cars by 2030 and hybrid sales by 2035." writes AutoExpress: "The announcement comes as part of the publication of the Government’s net-zero strategy, which also includes £620million of additional funding for the plug-in car grant and EV charging infrastructure, particularly the on-street residential chargepoint scheme. A further £350 million will be allocated for supporting the UK automotive sector in electrifying its vehicles and supply chains."

REBORN BMW 3 SERIES TO USHER IN NEW ELECTRIC ERA

"BMW will kick-start the third phase of its electrification strategy in 2025 with an all-new executive saloon that will serve as the vanguard for a reinvented line-up based on a new EV architecture." says Autocar: "It will feature Munich’s sixth-generation electric powertrain, long-range battery technology, rapid-charging capability, lightweight construction, a fully customisable digital operating system and a new mix of sustainable construction materials. Set to be sold alongside other new battery-electric and combustion-engined saloons, the new model, known under the internal working title NK1, will be the first car based on the Neue Klasse EV platform, paving the way for a whole new generation of EVs, including an extended line-up of SUVs."

Here's my hesitation: "As well as forming the basis for all of BMW’s new electric models, the aluminum and high-strength steel structure is being engineered to support plug-in hybrid powertrains with a front-mounted engine and an electrified rear axle in combination."

Wallbox N.V. (NYSE: WBX) and Nuvve Holding Corp. (Nasdaq: NVVE), announced a first of its kind vehicle-to-grid (V2G) partnership in Iberia designed to reduce mounting pressure on the grid and offer users significant financial incentives

The partnership will incorporate Wallbox’s pioneering hardware, Quasar, the world’s first DC bidirectional home charger, into Nuvve’s patented V2G software technology, GIVe™. VOLVO’S RANGE ASSISTANT WILL TEACH YOU TO EKE OUT EV MILES

"Volvo is trialling a beta version of its new Range Assistant app, designed to help drivers of its XC40 Recharge and forthcoming C40 Recharge squeeze out as many miles from a charge as possible. The app is coming to the electric SUV by way of an over-the-air update before the end of October, while its crossover sibling will have it pre-installed when production officially gets underway." according to topgear.com: "The Range Assistant promises drivers ‘a clear and accurate’ range estimate based on real-time energy consumption, automatically adjusting the climate control to conserve juice when it’s needed most. It also provides a breakdown on how energy is being used inside the car, and suggests ways drivers can adapt their driving style to be as efficient as possible. A bit like the Microsoft paperclip, but for throttle and braking instead of letter writing."

UBER, LYFT LOBBY FOR EV RECONCILIATION PROVISIONS

"Ride-hailing giants Uber Technologies Inc. and Lyft Inc. are pressing lawmakers to advance electric vehicle provisions included in the sprawling reconciliation bill in an effort to boost their climate goals. Both companies last year set an ambitious target of 100 percent EVs by decade’s end. Now they say the unprecedented EV tax credits, rebates and charging infrastructure funding that’s included in the contentious $3.5 trillion reconciliation package could help flip their fleets." says eeNews.net: " As it stands, the measure includes an expansive clean energy tax bill that would increase EV credits. If passed, it could cut the price of some battery-powered cars by as much as a third — boosting EV competitiveness and, in some cases, making them cheaper than combustion-engine automobiles.  The high price of EVs and a dearth of charging options in urban areas are considered by both Uber and Lyft two of the primary obstacles."
