This evening's readings include Matthew's recounting of the geneology of Jesus, from Abraham, through Joseph and Mary. This painstaking passage establishes from the very beginning of the New Testament that Christ and his church are heirs with the children of Israel to the covenant made all those centuries ago. We will be God's people, and he will be our God.
