“What did you expect?” Oftentimes our expectations and reality don’t line up. In our contemporary culture, we have a strong aversion to adversity. Yet, in many parts of the world adversity, suffering and even persecution are a normal part of life. In 1 Peter 1:13-2:10, Peter encourages us to stand firm in adversity by understanding who we are as God’s people. And who we are as God’s people means we relate to God, one another, and the world around us altogether differently.
