Tim Vibbert started off our new series entitled, "Love Mercy - Micah 6:8," by presenting "Mercy Defined." Tim began by saying that mercy is when one has a reason or power to punish someone but shows compassion instead. Jesus tells us, in His Word, that the merciful are blessed because they will be shown mercy. Tim then pointed out examples of mercy from Scripture; one being the adulterous woman, and another being the prodigal son, both of whom were shown mercy by receiving grace instead of punishment for their poor decisions. Yet, as Tim pointed out, the greatest example there could ever be of mercy was given by Jesus when He, being sinless, died on the cross for the sin of the world. The cross was the place where justice was fulfilled by mercy and grace, all bound up by the greatest love of all. As a result of the mercy and grace shown to us by Jesus, we are to love others as He loves us, and replace judgment with mercy and grace.
