God shows us mercy all the time to show His love for us and because we need it all the time. The story of mankind's sin goes all the way back to Genesis 3, when Adam and Eve fell to temptation in the Garden of Eden. The biggest act of mercy forever is when God sent His only begotten Son Jesus to pay in full the debt for all sin for those who would trust in Jesus for salvation. God Himself paid the price for man's sinful nature and we need His forgiveness and mercy all of the time.
