In Episode 6, Drew Pettifer speaks to artist William Yang, the Hon Michael Kirby and academic Paul Sendziuk about queer rights, the AIDS pandemic and representation. William Yang is a prolific storyteller. His photographs and monologues with slide projections describe his experience of coming to terms with his identity as a gay Chinese Australian. Yang’s work is a rich visual record of queer histories and struggles, as well as a personal exploration of his Chinese heritage and family relationships. Often inscribed with handwritten commentary, his visual stories offer insightful reflections on cultural identity.
