Johnny Cardenas is the Head Coach of Stephen F. Austin University, a Division I program Nacogdoches, Texas.  He began his playing career in 1989 at Seward County Community College and finished at Texas Christian University.  He was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the 46th round in 1993.  He played professional baseball from 1993-1998 for the Seattle Mariners, Texas Rangers and Chicago White Sox.  He began his coaching career soon after retiring from professional baseball, spending his first five years as a High School Coach in Texas and Oklahoma.  Then, in 2006 he was hired on as the Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator at Stephen F. Austin University.  Not long after, in 2009 he was given the Head Coach position.  He has been coaching at Stephen F. Austin University for 12 years and is their all-time winningest Head Coach.


In this episode, we start off talking about his college coaching career and why he has decided to stay apart of the Stephen F. Austin baseball program for so long.  We also dive into what Coach Cardenas expects from his players at the college level and how he creates honesty and trust in his program. 


We than jump into how Coach Cardenas learns from his players, in return making him a better coach, as well as his thoughts on putting trust in assistant coaches.  Also, discussing black and white coaching, new technology in baseball, family sacrifices and much more!
