Sometimes we need to learn to stop saying yes. We say yes to spending money in many ways that go against our goals of getting out of debt and getting into prosperity. We say yes to car payments. We say yes to using credit cards. We say yes to spending money that has not been previously budgeted.

 

I'm not saying that we need to say no to everything, either. However, I do think that we need to apply logic to the decisions that we make. Married folks, you need to both talk about financial decisions together in a calm and logical fashion. Aside from being logical and purposeful and sometimes saying no because of this, it's also a good idea to suggest an alternative.

 

Need a new car? Rather than getting back into the land of car payments, suggest a newer used car that is more reliable than the one that is being replaced and can be paid for with cash after the appropriate time is taken in order to save up for the purchase. Need to go on a vacation? Don't book the flight or the rental car or hotel rooms before you determine a destination that isn't going to suck your bank account dry and have you stressed out and worrying throughout your holiday.

 

There are many ways that we can say no along with proposing alternative suggestions at the same time and force ourselves to stop saying yes to everything that comes our way. In doing so, we are living with purpose and defining our own path to one day get into prosperity by making sound financial decisions right now.
