Believe it or not, a credit card company actually did me a favor. I almost fell for the zero percent introductory APR trap. Thankfully, we were denied the credit card. The reason for the denial is irrelevant; the point is that we were seriously close to making a terrible mistake with our finances, and I am thankful that we were never approved and will not receive the card.

 

With our backs against the wall to pay off this high interest rate credit card that we had originally planned to transfer to a new credit card, we are now extremely focused to get this credit card paid off and the account closed yesterday. We can't wait to be done with this credit card, and we never want to make the same mistake again. Not being able to simply transfer our balance to another credit card is a blessing in disguise. We now feel the pain of the higher interest rate which in of itself establishes the needed sense of urgency to pay this off as quickly as possible.

 

If you are in a similar situation right now and are contemplating signing up for a credit card balance transfer, please think again. This isn't the way to pay off debt. There is no other route other than to simply pay off the debt. Transferring balances back and forth is not the same as paying off a debt. It gives us a false sense of accomplishment, when in reality, we haven't decreased the amount that we owe. What's worse, we may be tempted to wait longer to pay off debt or go into more debt in the meantime. Buckle down, pay off your debt, and make real moves towards the next step of getting into prosperity.
