Saving money on groceries doesn't need to be difficult. As a matter of fact, you can learn how to save money on groceries right now. We're not talking about clipping coupons, either (although this could save you even more money when you combine clipping coupons with this advice). We're going to walk through some truly simple steps that will likely save you a hundred dollars or more each and every month.

Somewhere in the last month and a half or so, we stumbled on this method that allowed us to truly save some money on groceries. If you're like us, you'll find that the grocery budget line item is one of the largest in your monthly budget. Any savings that we can bring to reduce this line item in the budget will be helpful.

Briefly stated, we have started to plan our grocery shopping trips before heading out the door. We now have our grocery list with us when we go shopping rather than looking at the shelves to give us ideas of what to buy. By only browsing the shelves to figure out what to buy at the grocery store, we will almost always spend more than we need to in any given shopping trip. We have been using an app, but you could just as easily use pencil and paper. The bottom line is to have a plan, and the shopping list is your plan.

Along with the completed plan in the form of a shopping list, the key here is to go grocery shopping more than once a week. You are essentially splitting your list and purchasing only what you need for the next couple of days. You will become more focused on what you truly need and will buy less fillers. You will also end up having fewer items that need discarded due to being spoiled or expired. It's up to you how often you want to take a trip to the store, but I would recommend splitting the list and purchasing grocery items at least two times per week. As a general rule, if you won't use the grocery item in a day or two, don't buy it.

It's truly not difficult, and it doesn't need to be. That's the beauty of this advice. If we keep things simple, we are more likely to succeed. The same is true with this particular strategy. God bless.
