Bridging the Troubled Mind!
Mental Health System, the Law and resources
Valerie Byrd, Executive Director, The Consumer Satisfaction Team Inc, and Yvette Kamimura, CST Team Member & FTP Resources Specialist, joined The FTP Fam in the studio and Ilena from NorthEast Philadelphia,  joined us on the phone to discuss the challenges of Mental Illnes. Controversy, FTP style ensued when our Compassionate Lawyer blurted out that she does not completely accept how social, environmental or behavioral factors can affect a person to the extent and degree as a biological or genetic disorder to render a person truly mentally ill.  Our phone guest and our in studio guests of CST almost came to verbal blow, when the topic of consumer satisfaction in the eyes of the mental health clients was discussed.  How can you tell if a loved one suffers from a Mental Illness, where do you go for assistance, start by tuning into this episode.
Mental disease or defect.
In any prosecution for an offense, it is an affirmative defense that when the defendant engaged in the proscribed condcut, he or she lacked criminal responsibilty by reason of mental disease or defect, Such lack of criminal responsibility means that at the time of the criminal conduct as a result of mental disease or defect the defendant lacked substantial capacity to know or appreciate; the nature and consequences of his or her conduct, or that such conduct was wrong.
