Many words in French and English are similar or look similar. That’s lucky because it helps with learning vocabulary faster. However, these words sometimes means something very different in the two languages! In this case, they are called “faux amis”, false friends, or false cognates. Un appareil photo = a camera

Un délai = a deadline

Un retard = a delay

Un député = a Member of Parliament

Un adjoint = a deputy

La politique = politics ; a policy

la politique étrangère - foreign policy

la politique budgétaire = budget policy

la politique de l'autruche = ostrich-like approach

un agenda = a diary

l'ordre du jour (nm) = the agenda (of a meeting)
