I've long been a fan of the album Bizarro from my younger days, and I think it still sounds fresh today. Above all, it won Tobin's approval. Gedge has been prolific in output since the band's first LP, George Best. His solo works, instrumental material and the quite frankly weird Ukrainski Vistupi V Johna Peel. This was a mix of Peel Sessions and Ukrainian folk tunes inspired by the guitarist's Ukrainian father. The "Weddoes" latest release (at time or writing) is the 2017 Home Internationals EP. The boy Gedge has written some of the best love songs of the Rock n Roll era. You may dispute this, but I'm right and you're wrong – John Peel Fistful of Love from Antony & The Johnsons was very well received on the show. Front of the stage is Anohni, formerly Antony Hegarty, hailing from England but now firmly resident in the US after moving to the US (San Francisco Bay Area) with her parents at the age of 10 years old. What happened next to Anohni? Nine years later she relocated to the other side of the US and enrolled in the Experimental Theater Wing of the New York University. After forming Antony and The Johnsons with a mixed bag of musicians they went on to gain success with the Mercury Music Prize winning album I Am a Bird Now in 2005 as Tobin mentioned in the show. This is actually my favourite track in this episode of the show. There can't be many music fans who haven't heard Ray LaMontagne's Trouble album, it's a treasure, along with a lot of his wider body of work. Sadly, I believe he has either already or will shortly be touring for the last time in the UK. I stand to be corrected on this. From the Bottom of the Record Box recommendation: load up some of Ray's albums on your iPhone, purchase a decent bottle of bourbon and enjoy a lost weekend. New Music Selection Released only this month Sports Team's humorous and punchy single Margate hooked us from the start. The slight Jagger-esque vocals and mannerisms on the accompanying video are both comedic and authentic. There are echoes of The Velvet Underground in here, along with Psychedelic Furs and Television as we eluded to on the show. For me, this track was reminiscent of Television's 1977 track Venus, albeit more aggressive and arresting. One thing's for sure, it sums up British seaside resorts, and Margate is no different. We will definitely be keeping an eye on Sports Team for further releases.
