This chapter has so far been dealing with Christians who die and will be raised at the coming of the Lord Jesus. Last Sunday Pastor Lou spoke on Paul’s answer to the question (35) “How are the dead raised?” Our perishable earthly body will be resurrected an imperishable eternal body.

Our current bodies are created for existence on earth; our eternal bodies will be created for existence in the new heavens and new earth.
(50) “Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does corruption inherit incorruption.”

Paul is not contradicting his earlier teaching. He is not saying that a body cannot inherit the kingdom but that a merely physical body cannot. He is not saying that only the immaterial will be in the kingdom. Paul taught the Corinthians that their physical bodies cannot inhabit heaven. There was another question which remained unanswered.
