Paul placed a high value on personal face-to-face ministry (5-7). Note the phrase “if the Lord permits.” Paul’s life was always subject to the Lord’s leading. He was currently having an effective ministry in Ephesus (9). The open door signified the opportunity to preach the Gospel. God directs through open and closed doors. Paul’s ministry in Ephesus caused the Gospel to be spread throughout the Roman province of Asia (Acts 19:26). Paul’s preaching caused a riot in the city. Satan will bring opposition when his kingdom is threatened. Ministry on any level is challenging and requires commitment.
