A member of the Corinthian congregation was involved in an incestuous relationship with his step-mother.  The Bible is more a book about reality than religion.  God is not just the God of the ideal but of the real.  Church life just like family life gets messy.  The Corinthian Christians would have been very comfortable living in the 21st Century.  Like them many Christians today basically do what they want to do whether it is scriptural or not.  Sexual sin is a constant issue.
