The first verse of chapter 11 appears to be the last verse of chapter 10. “Also, in the first year of Darius the Mede, I, even I, stood up to confirm and strengthen him.)” This angel, possibly Gabriel, encouraged Darius, who is most likely Cyrus to allow the Jews to return to Judah. It could also mean that the angel stood by Michael in the spiritual conflict with the demon over Medo-Persia. (2) “And now I will tell you the truth.” This is an emphatic truth claim. What the angel is going to tell Daniel will be a supernatural revelation of truth. It is the level of detail that fits the history which creates a problem for the skeptics. Christians view this as a confirmation of the divine inspiration of the book of Daniel. Verses 2-35 are fulfilled prophecy. This is a prophecy that has become history. It is the history of the kingdoms of Persia, Greece, Egypt, and Syria. Most of the prophecy will concentrate on Egypt and Syria. The details of the prophecy are leading up to Antiochus Epiphanes who we saw in Daniel 8.
