Last Sunday we began a new series on “A Christian Worldview.” A worldview is a framework from which we view reality and make sense of life and the world. A worldview is not just a private personal viewpoint. It is the way we understand and interpret the world around us as well as how we apply this view to life. The predominant worldviews of our current culture are wreaking havoc in our society and destroying lives. Del Tackett, “Nonbiblical worldview ideas don’t just sit in a book somewhere waiting for people to examine them. They bombard us constantly from television, film, music, newspapers, magazines, books and academia.” Added to these is the onslaught of social media and the worldwide web. This also involves the people in our circle of influence. C.S. Lewis, “The Christian and the Materialist hold different beliefs about the universe. They can’t both be right. The one who is wrong will act in a way which simply doesn’t fit the real universe.” We said that ideas have consequences. Nowhere have these fragmented worldviews of our culture had a more tragic impact than in regard to human life issues. Nancy Pearcey says, “As Christian parents, pastors, teachers, and youth group leaders, we constantly see young people pulled down by the undertow of powerful cultural trends. If all we give them is a ‘heart’ religion, it will not be strong enough to counter the lure of attractive but dangerous ideas….Training young people to develop a Christian mind is no longer an option; it is part of their necessary survival equipment.”
