The return of Jesus Christ is a major theme of the New Testament.
It was promised at Jesus’ ascension. Acts 1:11, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven.” Paul mentions it again in 1 Corinthians 15:23, “But each one in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, afterward those who are Christ's at His coming.” He spoke of Jesus’ return to the church of Philippi. “For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ” Philippians 3:20. He also referred to it in Colossians 3:4, “When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.” Paul writing to the church in Thessalonica emphasized the coming of the Lord Jesus.
