Questions

1. God, why don’t you care about what’s happening?
2. God, why do you remain silent while wickedness prevails?
3. God, how can we trust you when there is injustice all around us?

Main Idea
God calls us to trust him even when we don’t understand what’s going on.
Habakkuk who?
• Very little is known about him
• Lived alongside of Zephaniah and Jeremiah
• Likely prophesied about 10-20 years before the Babylonian invasions of Judah that began in
605 B.C. which resulted in the eventual fall of Jerusalem in 586 B.C.
• The book consists of three short chapters (56 verses in the ESV)
• Basically a shortened form of Job, echoing some of the same themes
• Like Job, Habakkuk questions God’s justice, but in the end they both realize that God is
sovereign and his justice is far above anything they can comprehend
