#23: before jumping on the bandwagon... - a podcast by Kat D James

Before we jump on the bandwagon of, “Hallelujah, 2020 is finally over!” and “2020 sucked!” let's take a moment to PAUSE & reflect… because, without discounting the hardships this year has brought many people around the world and in our country, I still believe that 2020 has brought important lessons, new awareness + gratitude for some of the "basics" (like human connection) we may have previously taken for granted.
HOME IS A SANCTUARY
This year, with being forced to stay at home & isolate (for those of us who are not currently in a domestic abusive situation), we were realizing the importance of creating a home that feels like a safe space, a sanctuary from the outside world. Not in a way of hiding from the world or her problems, but in a way to recharge, to rest, and to find that peace in our hearts in order to show up where we are being called to show up.
THIS YEAR...

We put more attention on home and finding ways to improve & take advantage of what we already have.
Decluttering, making home feel relaxing + like a sacred space VS messy, unorganized chaos.
Realizing all that we have but are not using & being able to donate to shelters OR to friends who may benefit by sharing what we no longer need.
Adding plants to your space, artwork you enjoy, and books to your home library (focusing on what brings peace + JOY)

RESOLUTION TIME
This is a time of year that folx get swept away in the excitement of New Years resolutions + creating VISION BOARDS. If this is something you enjoy, go ahead and start dreaming up what you would like to create!
BUT it can easily become a time of COMPARISONS & feeling unworthy, or not good enough as you already are. If this is a time that causes great anxiety or triggers your trauma, leaving you feeling pressured to perform or to live up to other peoples goals + expectations, I invite you to REST instead.
WE ARE IN THE WINTER SEASON
Winter is not a time for work, for producing, or for getting results. Winter is a season for dormancy, for going within. In Winter things die off or go dormant. Allow yourself to be aware of the things in your life, the relationships or the distractions, that are dying off.
This is a wonderful time for journaling, for having self-awareness & for acknowledgment.
