I stand w/ BLM - a podcast by Kat D James
from 2020-06-18T08:00
I wanted to talk more about how I grew up in this episode, but it wouldn’t be complete if it did not incorporate what is currently happening in our country in regards to BLM & the fight for #racialjustice. In the last several years of actively educating myself on racism in America, white supremacy ideology + the patriarchy, I have become aware of the subtle racism found in my genealogy, the church I was raised in, and my small-town community. RACISM, LIKE ABUSE, IS NOT ALWAYS LOUD + IN YOUR FACE OR NOTICEABLY VIOLENT. THERE ARE DIFFERENT DEGREES OF RACISM, INCLUDING SUBTLE RACISM, THAT YOU HAVE PROBABLY BEEN TRAINED TO IGNORE. I am White woman that was raised in a very large patriarchal religion, in a small town community. I witnessed a more #subtleracism that was less obvious or in-your-face and could easily be dismissed or ignored by passive or ignorant people. I believe it is up to me to acknowledge my privilege and continually educate myself + my children.
