The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) recommends that global CO2 emissions should decrease by 50%–80% by 2050. This goal is particularly challenging for hydrocarbon-based economies that depend on fossil fuel exports and for the oil and gas industry –but there are solutions- such as the use of renewable energy, carbon capture utilization and storage (CCUS), among others. It is, however, especially vital that technological solutions be customized based on each country’s unique emission profile. This talk will look into different energy transitions, the role of hydrogen, policies and technologies from a systems perspective.
