Ep. 51 - Hashtag Cult - a podcast by Noor Kidwai

In this episode I speak with Documentarian and Comedian Mike Fallek. Mike created a documentary and podcast called Hashtag Cult. He investigated the rise of online cults and ideologies. He interviewed numerous cult experts to investigate how groups indoctrinate people online. 

Mike talks about slowly losing a friend to an online ideology MGTOW (men going their own way). He talks about the changes in people when getting sucked into these communities. He talks about the “us vs them” mindset that most of these ideologies use to manipulate people. He talks about how experts get people to leave these angry and hate filled communities.   

Mike talks about the trauma and mental health issues that a lot of people have these days that drives them to certain types of online communities. How algorithms online can lead you to more extreme groups. Mike also tells us the proper way to change a person's mind.
