In this episode I speak with Comedian Ali Hassan. Ali is host of “Laugh out Loud” on CBC and Sirius XM and “Canada Reads”. Ali and I talk about growing up Muslim and both being very “Canadianized” and our desire to belong. We talk about both reaching a point in life where we wanted to embrace more of our identity and how fulfilling and meaningful it can be. 

Ali also talks about what going on stage after 9/11 was like. He talks about the differences in the perceptions towards Muslims after 9/11 and during the rise of ISIS. He also shared how he had to talk to his children about events going on in the world. Ali also explains his idea of being a “Cultural Muslim”.
