In this episode I talk with Jeff Corntassel (PhD) who is from the Cherokee nation and teaches Indigenous studies at the University of Victoria. Jeff tells us about the history of his people and how they were kicked off their land and how the Cherokee commemorate it. Jeff tells us about the values that are in Cherokee laws and society.

Jeff tells us about how community and the roll you play in community is an integral part of Cherokee society. We talk about the lack of these contributes to the mental health problems in society right now. We also talk about the importance of coming-of-age ceremonies that help transition people through different parts of life.

Jeff talks about the importance of story for letting us know how to live, to remember, and to change for the future. Jeff tells us about how change starts from a vision and then reverberates out from you. Jeff also tells us how we need to create more empowering stories.
