The Nature versus Nurture debate is one of the oldest philosophical issues within the field of psychology.
-Nature refers to genes and hereditary factors that influence who we are, from our physical attributes to our personality characteristics.
-Nurture refers to the environmental factors which affect us. This includes our early childhood experiences, how we were raised, our social relationships and our surrounding culture. The debate focuses on whether genetic or environmental factors have a greater influence on an individual's behaviour?

Each generation faces trials and tribulations based on social and political challenges and as a society we mistakenly think of the term progress through a limited spectrum of measures such as technology or economic change. This raises a fundamental question: Has the process of raising children regressed over time due to economic change? This leads us to ask; Why are children having so many problems controlling their behaviour?
