Dana Walrath is a medical anthropologist, author, and artist. Her first book, Aliceheimer’s, will be published in the US by Penn State University Press. In this talk, titled “Cultural Spaces, Comics, and Contested Memories” Dana desrcibes the ways medical anthropology and comic helped her to shape a new perspective about the experiences she was having with her mother Alice’s Alzheimer’s disease. She also discusses her deepening this work by exploring her mother’s past in Armenia, and the legacy of the Armenia Genocide of 1915. And she’ll sing.
