Lewis and Anne sat down with Max, Richard and Emily for three mini-interviews at MJ Biz Con to garner their thoughts on the cannabis industry in 2019 and what they are looking forward to in 2020. Max Cherney, Reporter at MarketWatch 







Max A. Cherney is a MarketWatch reporter based in San Francisco. A veteran Bay Area journalist whose work has been featured in local and national publications, he conducted the first jailhouse interview with Raymond "Shrimp Boy" Chow, a San Francisco Chinatown gangster whose affiliation with a state senator led to a statewide scandal, and he had a scoop about Sean Parker's role in the effort to legalize marijuana in California. Max previously covered e-commerce for IBD, with a focus on Amazon, and most recently was a staffer for J, where he investigated the rise in anti-Semitism at Bay Area schools since the 2016 election. Originally from Toronto, he attended Trent University in Ontario before receiving an MFA at California College of the Arts. 







Richard Carleton, CEO of Canadian Securities Exchange 







Richard Carleton has been CEO of the Canadian Securities Exchange for seven years. Prior to this appointment, Richard served as Vice-President Corporate Development with responsibility for the CSE’s technology, operations, market data and trading sales teams. Before joining the exchange, Richard worked as a business development consultant in Toronto and New York in the risk management and index product fields after spending twelve years with the Toronto Stock Exchange, serving most recently as a member of the exchange’s senior management team. Active in industry affairs, Richard served two terms as chair of the market data industry’s global trade association in the late 1990's and is a frequent panelist at market structure and trading technology events across North America. Richard also serves as a member of the boards of the Private Capital Markets Association and the Empire Club of Canada.







Emily Paxhia, Co-Founder and Managing Partner at Poseidon Asset Management 







Emily has reviewed thousands of companies in the cannabis industry and has worked with countless founders in many capacities. She had helped to shape founders' pitch preparations, their go-to-market strategies/ product launches, and advised on day-to-day business operations. Emily has held board seats for three portfolio companies and participates as an adviser to multiple teams. Extremely active in the investment decision making and ongoing investment oversight processes, she works closely with her partners to create meaningful deal structures, ensuring that proper governance is carried out at the company level. Further, Emily has dedicated time and energy to supporting policy groups and has served on the Board of Directors of the Marijuana Policy Project. She also currently serves on the Board of Athletes for CARE.
