Welcome to 2020! To kick off the New Year, The Green Rush team is starting with a bang as we publish our conversation with Steve and Andrew DeAngelo, Co-Founders of Harborside Health Center and two of the most important players in the history of legalizing marijuana.

Steve DeAngelo is a pioneering cannabis entrepreneur, activist, author, and on-screen personality. He co-founded several iconic cannabis businesses and organizations including Harborside, one of the first six dispensaries licensed in the US; Steep Hill Laboratory, the first dedicated cannabis lab; the ArcView Group, the first cannabis investment firm; and the National Cannabis Industry Association, the industry’s first trade association. He currently serves as Chairman Emeritus of Harborside Inc, a vertically integrated California cannabis company.

Steve and his brother Andrew sat down with us in Las Vegas at the 2019 Marijuana Business  Conference where they gave us a rundown of what they are working on now at Harborside, their work with the Last Prisoner Project and their hopes for the industry in 2020. We think this is the right conversation to begin the new year with, especially in light of what Governor Pritzker just did in Illinois, expunging 11,000 non-violent cannabis convictions ahead of Illinois implementing adult-use.

So don’t sit back, lean forward and enjoy!

Steve DeAngelo, Co-Founder of Harborside Health Center

Steve DeAngelo is an inspired and undisputed national leader, with four decades of activism and advocacy in the cannabis reform movement. His creation of a model medical cannabis dispensary and lifelong cannabis activism, coupled with his extensive knowledge in this arena, has made him one of the strongest voices in the cannabis and hemp industries. Steve’s career has focused on the intersection of advocacy and entrepreneurship, creating profitable ventures that simultaneously advance social goals. His other ventures include Ecolution, SteepHill Laboratory, Cannasure and The ArcView Group.

Andrew DeAngelo, Co-Founder of Harborside Health Center

Andrew DeAngelo is Co-Founder and General Manager of Harborside Health Center in Oakland, CA. Accordingly, he handles the facility’s day to day operations. Prior to his work with Harborside, Andrew served as the Vice President of Ecolution, Inc., a hemp clothing company founded by his brother Steve DeAngelo. After this time, Andrew spent a short stint as a theater and film professor at Chapman University. Andrew and Steve went on to open Harborside Health Center in 2006, and the Discovery Channel featured the brothers on their reality TV series Weed Wars.
