According to Statistics Canada data, Canadian farmers planted 77,400 acres of sunflowers this spring, which is down 31% from 2020. Last year Canadian farmers planted 111,900 acres of sunflower. The 2021 acreage is about equal to the five-year average of 78,800 acres. The majority of Canada’s sunflower crop is grown in Manitoba, with production also in Alberta and Saskatchewan.
