Winter kill was not a major problem this year. A dry spring advanced into early summer, and then turned abruptly wet in late June in southwestern and south-central Ontario. With wet, cool weather in place as the wheat crop came into head and maturity, there had been widespread concern for the crop in the more southerly parts of Ontario. Conversely, dry weather continued in many parts of central and eastern Ontario until recently.
