Show Notes (contains affiliate links): Ideal Ham Radio Vacation

On this week's episode of Ham Radio Crash Course, a podcast roughly

based on amateur radio but mostly made up of responding to emails from

listeners, hosted by Josh Nass - KI6NAZ and his reluctant wife, Leah - KN6NWZ, Josh has a ham shack recommendation in the Ham Radio Minute, Leah offers up a blog post from survivalfrog about the best places to bug out in the  Emergency Preparedness Corner, and they both talk about planning the ideal ham vacation.

The Email Correspondent’s Tower corrections came rolling in on how to pronounce Huntsville and on General Exam question explanations being not quite accurate last week. Thanks to Thomas and Cedric on info about filters and shift registers.

A debate over what to do with Russ’s 10x12 ham shack ensues, Charlie slips in some Fast and Furious, Greg asks why his IC-7300 shuts off when operating at over 50% power, Chris and Bunny share two sides of the same testing session (spoiler alert: Congrats  on your tech Bunny!). Bunny also suggests checking out Ham Village at DEFCON.

Rob, covert ECT co-producer, drops knowledge, as always, on an interesting ham related space topic: Apollo 11 fact checking. Dave talks about his QRP outing.

Kyle talks about the mesh network that is LoRa and gives a fascinating look at Hurricane preparedness for sailors. Greg talks about the importance of community in emergency preparedness. Gabriel recommends a video game hams might enjoy. Alex asks for recommendations on generators with low noise.

James asks, “How did you get your wife to agree to the antenna on the roof?” Leah answers.

Gerald asks, “Does the thickness of a vertical antenna affect how much bandwidth it will be resonant on?  Second, do the radials need to be as thick?”

Nathan takes a look at the HRCC channel history and comes out with some questions about the origins of Baofeng Daddy.

And the debate over York Peppermint Patty and cereal rages on.

Have a drink with us! Today, we’re drinking… High Noon Sun Sips.

Josh has a short tip with the Ham Radio Minute: Soldering irons are a ham shack must have. Hakka Soldering Station: https://amzn.to/3Bz4vbK
