Episode #26 is a tough and personal one: Martin Schirmbacher and Marlene Schreiber speak to two friends and colleagues from Ukraine on how they are doing, how their lives changed and how legal work is currently been done. Oleksiy Stolyarenko heads the IT/TMT industry group of Baker McKenzie in Kyiv and Nazar Chernyavsky is the CEO of one of the largest independent law firms in Ukraine: Sayenko Kharenko. Martin and Marlene have known and worked with both of them for years; all four of them are engaged in international legal networks: the INTA (International Trademark Association) and Technology Law Committee of the IBA (International Bar Association).
In this episode we are not talking trademarks and patents or cybersecurity and M&A in Tech. We are talking about the Russian war in Ukraine and how it affects our colleagues. Oleksiy and Nazar are telling us about personal experiences with the aggression. Oleksiy had just returned from Bucha. Close friends of Nazar have barely escaped the Russian army in Irpin.
And we talk about how to keep a law firm running; how to keep the people positive; how to keep the economy working - in times of war.Plus we speak about the charitable work both of them lead and their firms participate in. And also how listeners - how you - can help.
